[Identifying the author of Gazi Ayintab (1926): a survey on medical geography in the southeastern province]. / Turkiye'nin Sihhi - Ictimai Cografyasi: Gazi Ayintab vilayeti yazari Dr. Hamdi (Kasim) Ozkan.

The Ministry of Health of the young Turkish Republic launched a project to survey the physical and organizational infrastucture of health services inherited from the Ottoman Empire. The first monography was published in 1922 by Dr. Riza Nur, the Minister of Health himself on his native Sinop province. A total of 17 reports were compiled and published before 1928, the year of latinization of the Turkish alphabet. The authors of this collection titled The Medical and Social Geography of Turkey were contemporary local health authorities. In one of these monographs published in 1976 on Gazi Ayintab the author was not noted. Our research indicates that this author was Dr. Hamdi (Kasim) Ozkan. Gazi Ayintab is reviewed briefly.

G. Buchanan on inguinal hernia treatment: a review 111-years after.

The Scottish surgeon G. Buchanan (1827-1905) has contributed to the development of pediatric inguinal herniorrhaphy in line with Listerian principles, and is the author of the first separate publication on the subject to appear as early as 1879. His largely forgotten work is being reassessed.
